Family = Children

Well I disagree. At the moment K-Rudd (Australia's Prime Minister - I've added a pic just because I can!) is all about helping out families in this time of 'economic uncertainty" So he decides to spend half the budget surplus (11 million dollars of it) on helping people out. I'm all for helping people out, I think it is great helping people out BUT why does family mean you must have kids? I'm trying my hardest to have a baby, spending more on my possible child before it's even been conceived than most of these 'families' have and they get $1000 per kid....please someone explain to me how that is fair. I know the logic behind it, he wants them to spend it to boost the economy but they will spend it plus more and MY home loan interest rates will go up when I didn't get any money to spend in the first place. I'm making huge generalisations here I do realise that, but I'm sick of childless people being left out of the budget.

I also find it somewhat sad, that on a certain forum I visit the discussion about this had led to many LTTTCers (Long Term Trying To Conceive) people have addressed the issue and said, well what about us? They have been ignored. Just another instance of infertility being swept under the rug like it doesn't exist. This is starting to really get to me and it's making me cross, really cross. People avoid talking about infertility like the plague, why is that? I've been trying to talk to a colleague about it and she just brushes it off as people 'not having enough sex' seriously do non infertile people honestly think that is why we can't have babies?

I can't remember what I thought about it before I was TTC, maybe I didn't think about it, maybe people like me are the problem.

Actually they get $5000 per kid. I've blogged about why I hate the baby bonus before, mainly baby bonus = paying people who can't afford to raise children to have children. And to be fair, he's not only giving money to people with children, it's also going to elderly people and first home buyers.

I think it's unfair to suggest that the Labor Government and Kevin Rudd specifically is against infertile couples, he is certainly a lot more progressive than Howard and I've only ever heard him talking positively about access to infertility treatments.

Also, there are bills going through in Victoria now which aim to give greater access to infertility treatment. That can only be a good thing.

By all means, complain about nothing being done to help out established couples without children, but I don't think infertility plays a role there. And I do feel you're pain, especially being in the Governments 'rich list' with a household income of $150k+ which means people want to stop us getting any government support. Because you know, they wouldn't want to give a baby bonus to people who can afford to raise a child.

I didn't write anything about Kevin Rudd being against infertile couples at all! Just childless couples! There are childless who have nothing to do with TTC who struggle, who don't get anything, which is my gripe. I did add my struggle in about infertility and the amount we spend on it and don't get any financial support because I think it's relevant, we are trying to have a child, we are not high income earners but because we are not a 'Family' we get no money.

I know they get $5000 for the baby bonus, I'm specifically talking about the budget surplus in this post :D

I'm glad something is being done in Victora about greater accessibility to fertility treatment, but considering QLD law has just made surrogacy legal, I won't be holding my breath for anything happening here for a while.

I'm by no means against K-Rudd, I voted for him, I'm disappointed it's the same people being given the money all the time.

I hate the fact that infertility is still a taboo although it touches approximately 1 in every six or seven couples. Why can't the issue be discussed openly in public and media? I respect all IF bloggers for sharing their stories and would love to see more IF coverage on tv and magazines as well. I think bringing the subject to public discussion would help decrease the shame and quilt most infertiles feel.

We are having a munincipal election soon in Finland but I haven't seen infertility issues in any of the candidates issue list. We have one MP couple though who have openly talked about their IF struggles and possible adoption, and I respect them very much for this.

Politics are not my thing, but I hear you!

I recall after Emma's stillbirth delivery fighting the system for the "child" credit you get when you file your taxes.

It wasn't about the money!! (I think it was $500 at the time) I wanted the state to recognize that we had created, loved and delivered a BABY! I lost.

Cara, you are right! I don't need the money nor do I want the money, I just think it's the principle of the thing! It hurts that Mr. Woggie and I are not considered a "working family" purely because we don't have children.
